Customizing Your Camera

Today’s Post by Mark Toal

Once in a while a camera comes along that I really get attached to. Even though another camera has caught my eye and replaced that one, I can’t part with it. For me one of these cameras is the Panasonic Lumix GX7. It looks great, feels great and takes great photos. Reading Joe’s blog about Infrared gave me a chance to give the GX7 a second life as a digital Infrared camera. I sent it off to Lifepixel and fell in love with Infrared.

For some reason this wasn’t enough for me and I decided to customize the outside of the camera. Joe and I are both car fans and I love the pin stripes and accessories on older cars. I remembered watching a video on how they paint the lettering on camera bodies and decided that the words Lumix and GX7 needed to be red. It turns out it’s really easy to do; you put some paint on a paper towel and wipe it over the indented letters then you quickly wipe off the paint that didn’t fill the letter and viola you have red lettering.

I bought one of the stunning wood camera grips from JBDesigns.com and painted it red. If you have seen these beautifully crafted camera grips for a variety of camera be sure to check them out. I finished it off with a red wrist strap from Optech.
