Mirrorless Video: Episode 2, Hybrids

I want to share two videos that demonstrate my goal of this series. Each one shows the impact of adding video to a still photo shoot. The first one, created by Kyle Valla, shows a simple trip to the beach with his wife and dog. I think you’ll agree that video and stills together gives you a feeling of the day and how happy the dog was to run on the beach. This project was all shot with a Panasonic Lumix LX7 point and shoot camera.

I shot the next Hybrid video after my friend Art asked me to take some photos of him and his beautiful 1953 MG sports car. This was my first real attempt at making a Hybrid project of stills and video with the Panasonic Lumix GH3. I combined the video skills that I had learned about, exposure, white balance, using an external mic, editing and posting online and to my complete surprise it worked.

I think the video and stills combined show the love Art has for this car and how much fun it is to drive it. In this series I’ll try to give you all the skills you need to make a Hybrid project like this.—Mark Toal
